The little town often confused for Ladson and Summerville is called Lincolnville. The sleepy little town was settled in 1867 when seven African-American men escaped Charleston. Seeking relief from racial discrimination, the men rode the South Carolina Special Train to attempt to find a suitable tract of land for sale by South Carolina Railroad Company. Succeeding in doing just that, then seven men purchased 620 acres of land for $1,000.00 and upon closing of their property, the men filed for charter to establish as a town. The little area formerly known as “Pump Pond” would soon become a town named in honor of Abraham Lincoln.

Lincolnville has seen exponential growth over the last few years. Seeing exponential growth, the once small often unknown town of Lincolnville has come alive. There are several new communities that are sprouting up in and around Lincolnville. This area is one of the last few underdeveloped areas left in the Dorchester/Berkeley/Charleston County border town.
